Publisher Spotlight: Tom’s Hardware

Their bias for action and unashamedly commercial outlook is evident in everything that Tom`s Hardware does. Do you want to know more about our Publisher? We interviewed Scott Mackay, the International Affiliate Manager for Future Publishing, to tell you more about the company!

Company

Can you briefly introduce yourself and your core business values?

My name is Scott Mackay and I am the International Affiliate Manager for Future Publishing. My main focus is TechRadar and the global sites we license. I ensure that we have plenty of relevant partners for each of these regions.
At Future we are 2300 colleagues with over 200 brands, speaking to more than 390 million people every month across the globe through websites, events and magazines. We’re the name behind content that connects people to their passions in technology, gaming & entertainment, home interest, women’s lifestyle, music, creativity & photography, hobbies and knowledge, all supported by our innovative tech stack.

What is one fun fact about you?

I am a luthier – I build and repair guitars in my spare time. I find having a hands on hobby is a great life balance when you are sat in front of a computer most days.

Tell us more about your audience and what types of advertisers do you work best with?

With over 200 brands and growing, our audience base covers a wide variety. We are part of the audience and their community. Advertisers that supply product feeds are very important to us. With so many articles to cover, automation is key therefore having product feeds (that are up-to-date) is very important.

USP

How is your company different from a traditional affiliate partner? Can you elaborate on your unique technology?

Our bias for action and our unashamedly commercial outlook are evident in everything we do. We use our inhouse technology to match articles and products to 1000’s product feeds so that we can ensure the best deals for our readers.

What would you say are the biggest benefits for an advertiser working with you?

We have a very large audience that trusts our reviews and deal guides. If you supply quality products that match our articles, it’s a win-win! And we provide further opportunities such as sponsored articles and campaigns.

What makes you an exciting company?

We are progressive in both our approach to work as well as home life balance. Everyone at Future has a part to play and a contribution to make because together, we’re stronger.

Next

Any new functionality or idea you would like to share with the advertisers?  Is there anything else you’d like our advertisers to know?

We continue to improve our inhouse technology every day to streamline our services. As said; providing up-to-date product feeds are very important to both us and the advertiser.

Where do you think the Affiliate space is heading in the next year and what are the main market disruptions?

I hope it is towards global expansion, especially in countries not considered 1st world. We have readers in every country however, we are not always able to monetise our content due to the lack of merchants (as well as product feeds). You may see a few fashion stores with feeds but the few others that have opted to join an affiliate platform, generally only supply 1 banner and a link. This may be suitable for a blogger but it doesn’t work for us.

Any exciting plans coming up in the next 12 months?

Our recent acquisition of TI Media and GoCo (and the integration to follow) will certainly keep us busy for a while. The outcome will result in an expansive of media outlets that rival our closest competitors, on a global scale.

Tradedoubler

How long have you worked in the affiliate marketing space and How long have you had a relationship with Tradedoubler?

I have worked in the affiliate space for over 10 years now and Tradedoubler has been there with me from the beginning!

Thank you, Scott Mackay, for this great Interview!
