Publisher Spotlight: Soreto

In our interview with Ricki Jones, Chief Commercial Officer of Soreto, a referral marketing and social sharing technology company, he introduced the business values and talked about their audience, types of advertisers they work with and biggest benefits they can bring. Amongst Soreto’s differentials, he also shared a bit of the company plans for the next 12 months and what he enjoys the most in the market.


Can you briefly introduce yourself?

My name is Ricki Jones and I am Chief Commercial Officer of Soreto. I have been with the business for 9 months but have been in the Performance Marketing industry for about 17 years.


Can you introduce Soreto and the core business values/model?

Soreto is a referral marketing and social sharing technology that enables clients to generate new customers by utilising existing ones. This is typically done by displaying a message on a client’s confirmation page once a customer has purchased, encouraging them to share a positive message with their friends and family on social media, email or WhatsApp. We can drive increased social reach, generate new customers and retain existing ones – all based on a CPA commercial model.


What would you say are the biggest benefits for an advertiser working with Soreto?

As above really – generating new customers and retaining existing ones is a key part of our offering. As we are rewarded on a CPA it is in our interests to make sure the campaign converts as well as it can, so this a crucial part of our offering. In addition, if a client is running existing social media activity, you can use your referral marketing activity to amplify the reach of this by including things like hashtags in the messaging.


Tell us more about your audience and what types of advertisers do you work best with?

We don’t have a specific audience – the audience is essentially the client’s audience which we harness once a customer has checked out. In terms of a best performing sector, we work with a number of clients in different sectors (retail, travel, health, gaming and utilities to name a few) and all of these perform well. The success of the activity will depend on a number of factors, with the main one being the reward that is offered to the customers – for example, if a customer has just bought a flight, they are not likely to be buying another flight any time soon so offering the customer a % off discount on a future purchase will not necessarily be a strong enough reward. Offering them something like an Amazon gift card, or entry into a VIP lounge when they get to the airport, will perform much better.


What makes Soreto an exciting company?

We are a start up and have been around for around a year and that makes it an exciting place to be in itself. In addition, the fact that we have something that is really unique for TradeDoubler is a great position to be in – you won’t have another company on your network like us, which is a great USP for us. Being a tech-based affiliate also means that we are a great fit for those clients who are looking to diversify their affiliate base.


What’s been your greatest experience working for Soreto?

There are too many to pick one out – being able to work for a start up and see it grow from nothing to where it is now, as well as where it is going, and to be a part of that growth, is a great experience in itself.


What sets Soreto apart from others?

Other referral marketing technologies? There are a number of reasons why using Soreto over and above our competitors, the main ones being:

We work purely on a CPA basis – no setup fees, integration fees or design fees are needed, and we can typically work on a clients standard CPA rate they have on their affiliate program. So, it should be much more cost effective.

We work through the affiliate networks and others don’t – which means that it is much easier for a client to manage us compared to our competitors (e.g. reporting, invoicing, general admin, de-duplication of sales etc.)

Our end to end workflows are much more automated, which means that there are less opportunities for errors with our client’s activity


What is your vision for the next 12 months and what new can we expect from Soreto?

To continue to grow the client base, and the teams, both in the UK and beyond – we are already gaining traction with clients in other markets and as we grow in those markets, we will staff up accordingly. From a product point of view, I think we have only just scratched the surface in terms of what we can do with Soreto, so watch this space!


What do you most enjoy about affiliate marketing?

It’s a very personable industry – I have made some great friends in the industry and there are always so many opportunities to met old faces and new at different events and conferences. I also like the fact that it is (mostly) all based on a CPA as everyone knows exactly where they stand…..although I’m not sure you can “enjoy” a commercial model??


 What is the most exciting time of year for you as a business?

As we are not wedded to any one sector, there is no particular time of year that is busier for us over others – we are always busy! Of course, Black Friday / Cyber Mondays are great for us – as well as the festive period, because who doesn’t like Christmas?!
