Publisher Spotlight: Check Out Sam

Can you briefly introduce yourself?

Hi! My name is Sam and I’m the blogger behind Check Out Sam.

I’ve already been working in the online community for about ten years, but the blog itself has only been my focus since about five years.

Can you introduce Check Out Sam to our readers?

On Check Out Sam I try to give as many tips and information as possible so that future travellers can start their holidays well prepared. It doesn’t matter if they decide to go on a short city break or a long road trip through New Zealand, for example.

I visit all the places myself and write down all of my tips, travel routes and guides on the blog. This way my readers are perfectly prepared for their holidays abroad.

Like I said earlier, I have been active in affiliate marketing for quite some time. When I began blogging I was actually already living abroad most of the time. However, I focussed more on smaller projects. Then the idea of a travel blog popped up in my mind and well… Now we’re already several years later and look where that idea brought me!

How long have you had a relationship with Tradedoubler?

Already from the beginning of the blog have I been working together with Tradedoubler. That mainly has to do with the interesting and big partners you showcase in the travel industry.

On top of that, I also really like collaborating with you and your partners because communication is easy and quick. Also not unimportant: I notice that your pay-out rates are a little bit higher than what the competition offers.

What would you say are the biggest benefits for an advertiser working with Check out Sam?

I have been in affiliate marketing for already ten years and I know what works. At this moment, Check Out Sam is one of the biggest blogs in Belgium and the Netherlands and I’m sure the German blog will also start showing promising signs in the coming months and years.

Because I only work with brand and companies which I trust myself, my readers know that they can trust my opinion.

I always stay true to my advertisers. That way you start a long-term relationship that is built to last!

Do you have any upcoming promotions, new launches, or exciting news you would like to share?

Because of the ubiquitous Corona pandemic, the travel industry has of course come to some sort of halt. Therefore I have fewer big plans and not so much exciting news.

However, I didn’t do anything during these times! In my home country (Belgium) and our neighbours (the Netherlands), there certainly is a lot to do too. And I was in luck because a lot of your advertisers are also active in these regions.

About one and a half year ago, I started the German version of Check Out Sam. Because of Corona, this projects has of course slowed down a bit, but it certainly isn’t put in the freezer either! I really do look forward to growing further in 2021 and 2022. On the German blog, I will also implement Tradedoubler and their partners, by the way.

Where do you think the affiliate space is heading to in the next year? What are the main market disruptions?

I think this is really hard to predict because there always are quite some new things developing or rolling out.

What I noticed is that Last Touch Attribution becomes less of a standard. Every publisher is paid according to his or her position in the steps leading to an actual sale. I personally really think that’s a great step forward. This way, the whole process is more honest in my opinion.

Something I do worry about (a bit), is the news that certain internet browsers want to work without cookies in the future. On one hand, I understand that this is better for the consumer, but on the other hand, I do wonder what they will be replaced with.

However… I am also convinced that you will come with a great solution and that I absolutely don’t need to worry about that at all!

What do you enjoy most about affiliate marketing?

I really enjoy having so much freedom. I can work whenever I want, from where I want and I decide for myself how much time I spend behind my computer screen.

Because pretty much everything is done online, it never is an issue if I’m abroad. There too I can still work on my websites, solve issues or work on new tasks.

It also is great that there are so many opportunities. Affiliate marketing really is available in every sector and because of that, I always find new ideas to collaborate. On top of that, I also think that affiliate marketing is not so intrusive compared to (most) ads. I myself always choose websites or products that I use too, and because of that it really feels natural to integrate links to them on my websites.

What’s been your greatest experience working in the travel space?

Pooh… It really isn’t easy to just pick one experience! I really am blessed, because these last few years I had so many beautiful experiences and travel moments… And I really hope I will have many more of those in the coming years!

Most of the times, it’s small moments that stick with me (a gorgeous hotel, an amazing restaurant, a unique museum).

If there’s one trip that blew me of my socks from beginning to end, it must have been my road trip through South Africa.

There is so much to do and explore and it seems as if one highlight was followed by yet another highlight during the whole trip.

Besides that, I also have had the luck to meet so many like-minded people. Fellow bloggers and journalists, but also people responsible for communications at a tourism office or company. A few real friendships have been growing out of these frequent moments together, so of course, that’s another advantage of my job!

Is there anything else you would like our advertisers to know?

Feel free to send me a message. I’m always open to work out a cool concept or brainstorm original ideas.

I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon, so perhaps we can pave the path together for a very bright future 😉 !

Thank you, Sam, for the interview!
