Welcome to Tradedoublers newest team member, Dan O’Kane, Partnerships Development Manager. Dan joins us with a wealth of client management experience and is now going to be managing our key partnerships with our publishers. We got the chance to ask him a few questions to introduce him to the industry!
Can you briefly introduce yourself?
I’ve recently joined the Publisher team at Tradedoubler in the position of Partnerships Development Manager. I have an e-Commerce SaaS background, working in Account Management for some of the largest consumer electronics retailers in the UK. I’ve recently found a passion for Digital Marketing which has landed me in the affiliate industry – something I’m really excited about! The affiliate space is constantly evolving and growing, so I’m thrilled to be a part of Tradedoubler and to help drive successful, efficient campaigns for all our partners.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Usually it’s my Sassy Cocker Spaniel – Maisy – who seems to want to play fetch all day, every day. Other than that, I love an early morning on the golf course, I often try to fit in a quick 9 holes where possible!
What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?
At the moment, I’m spending as much time as I can working to completely understand the merchants and publishers that Tradedoubler work with, as well as researching the broader affiliate space to get an understanding of new trends emerging in the industry. I think the key to a successful affiliate campaign is to make each partnership relevant, targeted, and personal. By fully understanding the partners that Tradedoubler work with, I can help optimise campaigns where brands can connect with the audience suited to them, ultimately driving up conversion rates and helping our partners see real results.
What do you most enjoy about affiliate marketing?
I think it’s the level of innovation in the industry and the exposure to brands from a range of different backgrounds which excite me the most. New publishers and merchants across multiple channels are always emerging in the space, each containing new business models and ideas which keeps the industry fresh and interesting!
What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?
I would say that my biggest achievement was the completion of my university degree in International Business. I made the choice to study an accelerated degree as a mature student which was a huge commitment to make. The fact that it was accelerated meant that I had to fit all my studies into just under a two-year timeframe, as opposed to the usual full three-year degree. It was quite intense but looking back it was one of the best decisions I made, and I felt a real sense of accomplishment once I finished.
What’s the most recent app you’ve downloaded but are yet to use?
I’m actually in the process of making a permanent move from Cambridge to London at the moment, so my most recent app I’ve downloaded is Citymapper, which is basically an idiot-proof travel planner to help me find my way around the city. Luckily, I haven’t gotten myself lost (yet), so haven’t had to use it. I have no doubts that I will have to eventually though.
What is your guilty pleasure?
My friends always give me a hard time when it comes to picking movies to watch. My guilty pleasure is probably a good rom-com… I firmly believe that Friends with Benefits is a cinematic masterpiece and one of the best movies of the decade. Sorry, not sorry.
Lastly: a recommendation, an idea, a quote to live by?
I’m a strong believer of the premise that you get out of life what you put into it – a bit philosophical but I think that it’s important to push yourself out of your comfort zone, the reward you get out of a situation depends on how much effort you put into completing the task.
