10 years with Soraya Garcia Merino
Soraya Garcia Merino loves the countries UK, USA, and Spain. That is why she started her career in the UK. Great for Tradedoubler that Soraya found her way back to Spain and joined our Spanish team on 01.02.2012. Since then, she has been working according to our philosophy: Connect and Grow.
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I studied Documentation Science, and for the first 7 years of my professional life, I worked at the British Library and the European Bank in London.
When I moved back to Spain in 2002, I had the opportunity to jump into the fascinating world of digital marketing in a company specialized in SEO, SEM, and Social Networks. I started as a Link builder.
I am a digital marketer by vocation. I love my job, traveling and my family is the most important thing in my life.
What is your current position, and what do you mainly have to do?
General Director for Iberia, Latam, and Turkey. My role is to ensure that Tradedoubler grows successfully and sustainably in these markets by promoting all of our business lines: Affiliate Marketing, Lead Generation, Private Network Solutions for advertisers and agencies, Influencer Marketing, App Install Campaigns, and Programmatic Buying.
I carry the name of Tradedoubler with pride in my markets.
How would you describe Tradedoubler at the time when you started?
Tradedoubler was (and still is) one of the best and most trusted companies in digital marketing – not only in Spain but also internationally.
Tradedoubler was then very much focused on affiliate marketing. Although this is still a very important area for us, over the years, we have expanded our portfolio of performance marketing solutions to provide the best possible service to our advertisers and publishers. Everything we do is oriented to obtain sales for our clients, which has been our essence over the years.
Tell us about your career at Tradedoubler.
I started as Sales Director for Spain, and after just one year, I got the promotion to General Manager.
The best about my career at Tradedoubler is the constant learning process. Additionally, I have the freedom to decide how best to run the local business in Spain. I feel that I have the backup of a solid and taller company, but at the same time, I can act as an entrepreneur. The decision-making process is fast and very agile, which I like a lot because I am an impatient person.
What was your best experience in connection with Tradedoubler?
My best experiences at Tradedoubler relate to my personal life.
When I was offered the job of General Director, I was three months pregnant, but the company did not see this as a problem. Tradedoubler supported me all the way through it, even knowing that I would be on maternity leave at the most crucial time within my new role.
Also, I felt 100% supported by the HR department, my managers, and the whole of the Spanish team when I was diagnosed with a serious illness that kept me away from my responsibilities for several months.
Both experiences say a lot about how Tradedoubler treats its employees. This sensitive and caring approach naturally also applies to our advertisers, publishers, and other partners.
What do you think differentiates Tradedoubler from other employers?
Entrepreneurship, fast making decisions, and flexibility.
What has been your biggest “lesson learned” in the past 10 years?
The team is the beginning and end of everything, and it is very important to have the right people on board for the company to be successful.
By “right people” I mean colleagues that share the values of Tradedoubler:
collaborative, daring, optimistic, analytical, and above all, determined.
What do you most enjoy about affiliate marketing?
Affiliate marketing offers the possibility of infinite learning, as affiliate networks are the first port of call for all new digital business models. As an intermediate, we are in constant negotiations with the advertisers and publishers, which I also really enjoy.

Lastly: a recommendation, an idea, a quote to live by?
I find that when we really love, accept, and approve of ourselves exactly as we are, then everything in life works.
