Michał Mroczek, Client Development & Operations Director

About

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Ready to go.

What do you do when you are not working?

When I am not working, I spend much time with my family. I am the father of two children: A five-year-old son and a seven-month-old daughter. I have been climbing for many years, so I try to get my son into it. I am very happy because my wife also enjoys climbing.

In addition, I agree with the statement that a person is a lifelong learner, so I try to set aside at least a few minutes every day for personal development. In my free time, I also read books and articles on a wide range of topics. Among my favorites are geopolitical analyses, reports on the world economic situation, or popular science items, such as Nikolas Taleb’s The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable or Yuval Noah Harari’s Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind.

What did you want to be when you were little?

When I was young, I wanted to be the President of Poland. When I was 6 years old, my parents were doing renovations in their flat. At the time, I calculated when I would be able to run for election and wrote that date on the wall. It’s still there today, under several layers of paint, of course 🙂

Part at Tradedoubler

Can you tell us more about your role and background at Tradedoubler?

I am the leader of one of the Client Development teams, it is responsible for a portfolio of more than fifty advertisers, including key ones in the Polish market. On a day-to-day basis, I am responsible for organizing the work of our team and selecting the appropriate means to achieve the business goals of both our advertisers and the Polish branch of Tradedoubler. I am convinced that only happy employees can carry out their tasks effectively. That’s why I do everything I can to make my employees feel they are not lacking anything, whether in relation to work organisation, professional and personal development or adequate remuneration.

In my work I also focus on the automation and optimisation of processes. In June 2021, I graduated from the postgraduate managerial studies at the Warsaw School of Economics. I defended my thesis in the field of process management on the example of the implementation process of partner programs. I try to implement the knowledge gained during these studies in the work of our team as well as within the framework of various projects implemented in the Polish branch of Tradedoubler.

What do you like the most about your job, and how would you describe your working environment?

What I value most in my work is diversity. Since my early days at Tradedoubler, I have had (and still have) the opportunity to work with advertisers representing a variety of sectors (Fashion, Electronics, Telecommunications, Banks, Home & Garden, etc.), as well as with many interesting publishers. The opportunities offered to us by our publishers change dynamically, which makes it impossible to feel monotony. I feel like I am constantly learning, which is consistent with my approach to life.

Another aspect that “gives me wings” are the people. I have the opportunity to work and co-create the Polish branch of Tradedoubler. It is extremly important to me when we share positive feedback. It drives me to continue working. It is also a signal that the direction I have taken is right.

I can’t leave out the organizational culture either. We have created an environment where people have been given a lot of freedom of action, and in return, they take a lot of responsibility for completing tasks. That unleashes enormous resources of innovation, creativity, and out-of-the-box approaches.

Past

Can you please tell us a brief version of your career path before you started at Tradedoubler?

In the sixth grade of elementary school, I created my first website. We wrote it in HTML together with my one year younger friend. It was a fully functional site about our then-favorite Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay game.

Since then, I have developed as a freelancer, and a few years later, I created simple websites for local businesses or NGOs.

During my studies, I had the pleasure of working at the Institute of Systems Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences and at the Ministry of Education. In both cases, it was contract work.

What was the main reason for joining Tradedoubler?

There will be no romantic story. In 2012, I finished my master’s degree at the Faculty of Pedagogy at the University of Warsaw and realized that being a teacher or an administrative employee in the education system was not the best choice for me. I sent my CV to several companies, including Tradedoubler.

Career

With which position did you start at Tradedoubler?

I joined Tradedoubler as a Junior Publisher Account Executive on the Partnership Development team. It was the lowest possible position at this time which further motivated me to learn hard and develop fast.

What is the biggest lesson that you have learned in your career?

There are many lessons that I could consider very important. If I had to choose one, I would say we should work smart. I purposely do not speak about hard work – I mean intelligent work. Since I have learned that it is not the number of hours worked that is important but the effect we achieve at the very end. If someone can achieve a specific result in 30 minutes, and someone else has to spend 3 hours on a given task, it is worth considering what to change to optimize that. Sometimes people are unhappy because they have to perform repetitive tasks that consume a lot of time. The answer may be automation, which frees up resources, time, and energy. It allows you to focus on developmental areas, such as business, professional development or building relationships. It can give more happiness.

What would you say was the best decision in your professional career?

In 2012, when I started working at Tradedoubler, I combined it with my job at the Ministry of Education. I worked over a dozen hours a day for three months. It was a very intense time for me. Almost at the same time, I was offered a full-time transition in both jobs. I had to decide on my future career and decided to choose Tradedoubler. It was my best career decision.

Industry

What are you passionate about in the industry and this company in general?

Performance marketing is a very interesting industry because we can accurately measure the effectiveness of our activities. We are able to indicate the value delivered for our advertisers. Measuring traffic, conversions, leads, or other metrics is a fantastic basis for further analysis to grow business. Working on data is definitely something that gives me a lot of fun.

Where do you see the industry going?

There are several interesting developments in our industry. Of particular note, in my opinion, is cross-device tracking. For several years, there has been talking about the growing scale of users migrating between devices as part of a single purchase process. It is very important to constantly improve the technology in this area as it is crucial for proper billing in the performance model and correct business results analysis.

Another direction for the industry is to constantly work on precise tracking, especially in the context of tightening laws on user cookie acceptance policies. More and more partners are tightening their policies in this regard, so this area also needs to be constantly developed to lose out.

Looking long-term into the future (although this is already happening), I believe that tools based on neural networks will gain importance, if only in terms of forecasting sales volumes, optimizing commercial offerings among advertisers, or analyzing data and looking for connections between them.

A big thank you goes to Michał Mroczek! You have done an excellent job over the last 10 years, and we look forward to working with you for many more years.
