Prepare for ‘Super Tablet Sunday’ not just ‘Mega Monday’!

London, 25 November 2013 – Insights from Tradedoubler data reveal that UK retailers should be preparing for ‘Super Tablet Sunday’ as well as ‘Mega Monday’, in the run up to the busy online Christmas trading period.

The first Monday in December, which is also known as ‘Cyber Monday’, is the busiest day for Christmas shopping online. In the key Christmas sector of shopping and retail, Tradedoubler data shows that total online sales on ‘Cyber Monday’ 2012 were 25 per cent higher than the previous day. However, the same data also reveals that tablet users are more likely to shop online on the first Sunday of December (‘Super Tablet Sunday’).

Purchases made via a tablet are 5 per cent higher on ‘Super Tablet Sunday’, than ‘Mega Monday’; and 35 per cent higher than the first Saturday of December. In 2012, tablet purchases made up 74 per cent of mobile sales on ‘Super Tablet Sunday’, and this dropped to 69 per cent on ‘Mega Monday’.

Neil Ranatunga, head of mobile UK & Ireland at Tradedoubler, comments: “Tablets are the ultimate device for making those convenient purchases while chilling on the sofa, and Sunday is typically a relaxing day.  Therefore, retailers must plan and map their advertising strategy against consumers’ purchasing habits to target tablet users over the busy festive cyber period, to optimise their sales opportunities on ‘Super Tablet Sunday’ as well as ‘Mega Monday’.”
